Consultative Meeting organized by the National Commission for UNESCO

Participation of Family Rights Forum in the consultative meeting organised by the National Commission for UNESCO, which brings together a group of experts on “violence against women and girls” on Friday, January 28, 2022 in Verdun.

The meeting focused on the rise in violence against women and girls in Lebanon, with speakers presenting and discussing the current situation in Lebanon, as well as the impact of the country’s financial, economic, and health challenges (Covid-19) on the increase in gender-based violence cases. It shed light on the legal and procedural gaps that delay the provision of services and due care for survivors of violence, as well as those that disrupt women’s access to justice, particularly in light of the current reality of official institutions and administrations, rising poverty rates, and the ramifications of Lebanon’s financial and economic crisis.
